The Indian Republic Day falls on the 26th
of January every year marking the anniversary
of a great event which took place on 26th
January 1950; when India adopted its new
constitution and became a free Republic.
From this date onwards, 26th January is
celebrated in our country as the Republic
day of India. On this day every year, a
special parade is held at the Raj Path showcasing
the life and times of India and its various
constituent states. The honorable president
of India is presented with a march past
of the 3 wings of India’s defense
forces in the presence of thousands of visitors,
foreign dignitaries and others.
This day is also observed as a National
holiday since its inception in 1950 and
all the commercial as well as educational
establishments also remain closed on this
day. Although Republic Day celebrations
in India are held in every states capital,
the celebrations in Delhi are something
to watch out for and are also broadcasted
live on the National Channel of Doordarshan.
In Delhi, Republic Day starts with the Presidential
address to the nation. It is followed by
awarding of medals on account of bravery
to civilians and men from the nation’s
armed forces.
