This is the most auspicious occasion in
the history of this country; the day when
India attained freedom from the rule of
the British Empire on 15th August 1947.
From that year onwards, 15 August is celebrated
every year as Independence Day to mark the
freedom of India. This day is celebrated
with great patriotic fervor and enthusiasm
in all states of the country.

The preparations for this day in Delhi
begin almost a month in advance. Most of
the important avenues are embellished with
national flags. All the state buildings
in Delhi carrying high national importance
are bedecked and illumined. The Independence
Day is celebrated with flag hoisting ceremonies
and cultural programs in the state capitals.

The day is also rejoiced by
both the non-government as well as the Government
organizations. The Prime Minister of India
addresses the country after hoisting the national
flag at the Red Fort. The day is also famous
for its kite competitions that take part in
every nook and corner of the cities. Various
interesting social awareness programs are
also organized throughout to mark the arrival
of this day. |
