South Indian cultural Tourism has deep roots and finds its mention even in the most revered epic of Hindus; The Ramayana. It is a popular belief that Dravidians, which were the native of India’s mainland, were pushed down south by the continuous invasions of people from up as far as Mongolia, Iran and Persia. These invaders were foreigners to the land and these invaders were the ones that finally got settled in the northern part of India. The stark contrast of language, customs and traditions of North & south India are precisely due to this reason.
South Indians idolize the attractiveness of the body and motherhood as the personification of the everlasting world. Its theatrical dances, outfits and beautiful monuments, all echo this thought in their way of life. The womanly elegance is used dexterously and improved in the detailed dance types of South India such as Mohiniyattom, which denotes the dance of the enchantress and Bharathanatyam that expresses the festivity of exquisiteness and the cosmos.
Tamil, Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam literature is very affluent and has its own position. Other indivisible elements of South Indian traditions worth mentioning are the stirring temple monuments of Hampi, Badami and Mahabalipuram and the fresco paintings of Travancore and Lepakshi temples. The paintings of Raja Ravi Varman based on South Indian being and folklores are well thought-out classics whereas the Dravidian mural paintings in the Mattancherry palace and the Shiva Kshetra in Ettamanoor are some of the most admired visitor attractions of the area. |
